We back winners at Whisky by Time

Congratulations to world boxing champion Nina Hughes who retained her WBA Title on Saturday 10 June. Whisky by Time is incredibly proud to sponsor Nina and support her phenomenal boxing journey.

Nina, aged 42, displayed relentless focus, grit and determination to secure the WBA title, beating her 25 year old opponent with the tenacity of a terrier. Sports Promoter Eddie Hearn, described Nina as an example to others fighters.

A mother of two and a part-time secretary by day, Nina’s first introduction to boxing was through a box exercise class aged 25. Though she enjoyed it she had no desire to step into the ring. She has previously said;
“I was purely enjoying the fitness, but I got talked into it by my coach. So I started sparring, then he said ‘you’re ready to box’.
She went onto join a women’s gym where her natural ability shone. Over the next 15 years Nina honed her craft at national tournaments , narrowly missing out on being selected for the 2012 London Olympics. Nina took a break from professional boxing to have her children, returning to professional training in 2020. She went onto win her next five fights, achieving her first WBA Title in rocket speed in November 2022.

Nina recently commented:

“I’m so happy, I’ve defended my world title there is no way I was letting this go. I hope I have proved that age is just a number.”

One of her biggest fans are her children who described her mum’s recent victory to BBC journalist Sonia Watson as “ just amazing”. Nina’s immediate plans are a well-deserved holiday with her family. And then it’s back to training. Nina, we’re looking forward to seeing your next steps. You’re an inspiration to many.
